The youth
lens is something that can put people like adults in the shoes of an adolescent
for a second so they can better understand a different thought process. I will
be writing my youth lens focus about Eleanor and Park because the way the story
plays out it is most fit for a youth lens focus point. The youth lens point of
view of Eleanor and Park is easier to look at because the narration of the
story is based around Eleanor’s point of view so it is easier to basically get
into her mind and see what she is thinking about and her thought process as a
whole. In Eleanor and Park, it seems to me from Eleanor’s point of view that
the parents sort of run the show. The parents provide for them, put food on the
table and set the rules so there is a clear stated fact that the parents are in
charge in the book Eleanor and Park but how they manage that power could be a
lot different. Richie, Eleanor’s set father, clearly has power issues when it
comes to setting rules for the kids and managing what goes on in his house. He
tends to try too much to control them because he feels the need to have control
over every aspect of his house and doesn’t want to and doesn’t try to relate to
any of the children and when that happens he has no clue how to set the right
kind of rules for his household. If he had used a more “Youth Focus” idea and
see things from the point of view of an adolescent then maybe some problems could’ve
been avoided.
I completely agree with you that Richie does control every aspect of the family's life. Nice job comparing the youth lens to Eleanor and Park.
